NMTC BENEFITS

The New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Treasury, is providing $3.5 billion in tax credit allocation to Community Development Entities (CDEs) in Round 9 (2011 applications). These CDEs are formed by nonprofit organizations, for-profit entities, and government institutions with a track record or vision of investing in low-income, underserved communities. Once awarded, CDEs use NMTCs to make loans to and capital investments in real estate projects or businesses located in qualified low-income areas.
